CENTRAL BANK'S POLICY CORRESPONDS TO PROVISIONS OF THE
MEMORANDUM ON ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL POLICIES - IMF EXPERTS

Chisinau-27.07.2001/09:55:18/(BASA-economic) The monetary and
currency policy promoted by the National Bank of Moldova corresponds
to the provisions of the Memorandum on Economic and Financial
Policies, which was signed between Moldova and the International
Monetary Fund (IMF), according to IMF experts.

A new mission of experts from the IMF started an assessment visit to
Moldova on Thursday and met officials from the central bank.

During the meeting, the sides analyzed the evolution of the monetary
indicators in the first three months of this year, the economic
trends and situation, amount of the national reserves in foreign
currencies. They also discussed measures to strengthen the banking
system.

During six months of this year, the Moldovan inflation rate was 3.3
percent compared to December 2000, while the forecast for 2001 is 10
percent. On June 30, the reserves in foreign currencies amounted to
210 million dollars.

The IMF mission, headed by Richard Haas, is paying a two-week visit
to Moldova to assess the observance of the commitments assumed by
the Chisinau leadership and to make an expertise of the long-term
policy of the Tarlev cabinet and the financial and economic
situation in the country.
 


POLITICA BNM CORESPUNDE CLAUZELOR MEMORANDUMULUI PRIVIND
POLITICELE ECONOMICE SI FINANCIARE, CONSIDERA EXPERTII FMI

valutara promovata de Banca Nationala a Moldovei corespunde clauzelor
Memorandumului de politici economice si financiare semnat cu FMI, au
afirmat expertii misiunii FMI, care se afla intr-o vizita de evaluare la
Chisinau, in cadrul intalnirii de ieri cu conducerea BNM.

In timpul intrevederii au fost discutate si analizate unele probleme cu
privire la evolutia indicatorilor monetari in primul trimestru al anului
curent, situatia si tendintele economice, nivelul rezervelor valutare
ale statului si aplicarea masurilor (inclusiv legislative) de
consolidare a sistemului bancar.

Pe parcursul a sase luni ale anului curent, rata inflatiei a constituit
3,3% fata de decembrie 2000, iar prognoza pentru 2001 este de 10%. La 30
iunie curent, rezervele valutare ale statului erau de 210 mln USD.

Misiunea FMI, condusa de consilierul Departamentului Europa II al
Fondului Monetar, Richard Haas, se afla in R.Moldova intr-o vizita de
doua saptamani, pentru a evalua respectarea angajamentelor asumate anterior
de Chisinau si a efectua o expertiza a politicii pe termen lung a
Guvernului Tarlev si a situatiei financiare si economice a R.Moldova.
