Moldovan speaker, IMF
representatives broach economic issues
Chisinau, 17 January/MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Igor
Corman today met Deputy Director of the International
Monetary Fund’s (IMF) European Department Aasim Husain
and IMF Mission Chief for Moldova Max Alier, the
parliament’s communication and public relations
department has reported.
The officials discussed subjects on the economic
evolutions in Moldova, course of modernisation reforms,
prospects of signing of a new assistance programme.
Corman stressed that the cooperation relation with the
IMF was very important for Moldova, as the country was
further interested in developing the collaboration with
this international institution, including in the context
of cooperation with the European Union.
Max Alier said the IMF welcomed the evolution of the
Moldovan macroeconomic indicators. Alier also welcomed
the Moldovan authorities’ actions to promote appropriate
economic policies, which contributed to economic growth
in 2013.
IMF representatives referred to the organisation’s
willingness to further provide assistance to Moldova,
within a new programme focused on three main objectives:
ensuring the budgetary and fiscal sustainability,
maintaining a prudent monetary policy and consolidating
the financial and banking sector. Aasim Husain said the
new programme might be signed for a 15-month period.
Moldova became member of the International Monetary Fund
on 12 August 1992. The IMF’s last programme in Moldova
was completed in late last April. Moldova benefited from
assistance of about 577.15 million dollars within this
programme.
