IRRESPECTIVE WHO COMES TO POWER IN CHISINAU, IMF WILL
CONTINUE SUPPORTING MOLDOVA
Chisinau-26.01.2001/14:07:25/(BASA-economic) The International
Monetary Fund (IMF) is building its relations with Moldova through
the support granted to economic policies and programs, but not to
parties or particular persons, stated Richard Haas, the IMF
regional director, at a meeting with Moldovan President Petru
Lucinshci on Friday.
The IMF officials suggested that irrespective who comes to power in
Chisinau after the February 25 parliamentary elections, the Fund
will continue supporting Moldova under the condition that the
local government continues the reforms and honours its obligations
assumed through the signing of the Memorandum on Economic and
Financial Policies on December 1, 2000.
Haas also said that the "economic policies promoted by the present
government is a correct one and inspires confidence in a fruitful
cooperation between Chisinau, one one hand, and the IMF and the
World Bank, on the other hand," the presidency said in a press
release.
A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) began a 10-day
visit to Moldova on January 25 to assess performance under the
Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF). The mission is led by
Richard Haas, advisor in the IMF's European II Department.
If the mission concludes that policy implementation has been in line
with the December 1, 2000 Memorandum of Economic and Financial
Policies and that all the performance criteria for were observed,
the second tranche under the PRGF of around 12 million dollars
would be disbursed.
The IMF experts will meet with decision makers in the government and
the central bank. The sides will also discuss Moldova's medium-term
strategy on economic development.
The IMF's Executive Board approved the three-year loan under the
PRGF for Moldova in an amount equivalent to SDR 110.88 million
(about 142 million dollars) on December 21, 2000. The first tranche
of 12 million dollars was allocated in late December.
On Thursday, the mission met with Moldovan Premier Dumitru Braghis,
Deputy Premier Andrei Cucu, central bank chief Leonid Talmaci
and Finance Minister Mihai Manoli.
INDIFERENT CINE VA VENI LA PUTERE DUPA ALEGERILE ANTICIPATE, FMI VA SUSTINE RM CU CONDITIA CA
ACEASTA VA CONTINUA REFORMELE
Chisinau-26.01.2001/14:07:25/(BASA-economic) Fondul Monetar International isi construieste
parlamentare anticipate, FMI va sustine Moldova doar in cazul in care aceasta va continua
privind indeplinirea obligatiunilor asumate de catre R.Moldova in urma semnarii Memorandumului.
saraciei, precum si a cadrului legislativ pentru functionarea zonelor economice
libere.
In cazul in care misiunea va ajunge la concluzia ca Memorandumul este respectat, in luna
