PRESIDENT VORONIN AWARDED ‘CIVIC MERIT’ MEDAL TO AN IMF DIRECTOR

Chisinau-02.05.2007/08:46:30/(BASA-economic) President Vladimir Voronin singed late last week a decree on conferring the "Civic Merit" medal to IMF Executive Director Jeroen Kremers, the Presidency announced.

The medal was awarded to the official "to show gratitude for the contribution he brought in the development of relations between the Republic of Moldova and the international financial organizations and for the support provided in the promotion of economic reforms".

According to the cited source, during the award ceremony, Jeroen Kremers stated that over the recent 4 years, he has cooperated as an IMF representative "with great pleasure" with Moldovan authorities, trying to provide Moldova with support and attract donors from the Netherlands, the country he comes from.

Jeroen Kremers also noted that the decision to organize in Moldova this June a reunion of the member countries of the IMF constituency is recognition of the positive developments in Moldovan economy. The IMF official appreciated as "excellent" the relations between Moldova and the IMF.

An IMF mission is in Chisinau until May 8 in order to evaluate the performance of the Government and the National Bank in terms of implementation of commitments under the IMF program.

On 5 May 2006, the IMF approved, after a pause of several years, a new financing program for Moldova in the amount of US$118.5 million, and the first disbursement in the amount of US$17 million was carried out in the same month. At the end of the last year, the Fund accepted to increase the credit up to US$167 million, and the second disbursement, up to US$48.2 million.
