Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Grecianii today had a meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission, which started its activity in Chisinau

The goal of the IMF's European Department Mission, headed by Graeme Justice, is to assess the activity of the Moldovan government. At the same time, Justice said that the mission is to consider the possible impact of the world economic crisis on the Moldovan economy on average prospective.

"So far, the world economic crisis has not affected Moldova. Moldova has had quite good performance due to its reduced integration in international markets and due to the policies promoted by the government", Justice also said. Thus, IMF forecasts an economic growth of at least 6.5 per cent and an inflation rate of nine per cent for late 2008, against the 11.5 per cent previously expected.

At the same time, the head of the IMF Mission expressed interest in the rhythm of the reform's implementation in Moldova's public sector and in overcoming the crisis in the capital's heating sector.

Grecianii expressed confidence that the sides will agree on a common approach, in order to successfully conclude this stage of the programme with IMF.

Touching upon the macroeconomic situation, Moldovan prime minister said that the government carefully follows the situation on the foreign markets and the possible impact on the Moldovan economy.
