Prime Minister Vlad Filat has met the executive director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dominique Strauss-Kahn

The meeting took place within Filat's visit to the USA on 19-23 January.

Filat thanked the IMF for supporting Moldova, in particular to overcome the economic crisis. In the context, Filat recalled that Moldova has already benefitted from IMF support worth about 180 million dollars and the memorandum on which the sides agreed in October 2009 provides for another 590 million dollars.

The prime minister presented the government's priorities and informed about actions taken to fulfil them.

Filat asked for the IMF's support to identify solutions to pay compensations to less well-off Moldovans following the recent increase in energy tariffs.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn said the IMF is willing to continue to back Moldova including to help it overcome the problems it is facing.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Moldovan government delegation and IMF representatives.
