President Maia Sandu discussed with the IMF Mission Chief for Moldova

Chisinau, 11 March 2022 – Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova, had a meeting today with Ruben Atoyan, the Mission Chief of the International Monetary Fund for our country. The IMF official is on visit in Chisinau to assess the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova and identify solutions for supporting our country. The discussion concerned the situation in the region, the energy crisis and the rising prices of staple goods. The parties agreed that the Republic of Moldova needs a resilience plan to respond to the multiple crises.

The IMF official appreciated the authorities’ effort to provide compensations to support the population during this difficult period. In turn, President Maia Sandu mentioned that our country needs the IMF’s continued support. The President stressed that the IMF-supported program will need to be revised and adjusted taking into account the new circumstances faced by Moldova: the influx of refugees, growing prices, the developments in the energy and gas market.
