An International Monetary Fund mission is expected to visit Chisinau on July 12-26. The mission will be led by Mr. Richard Haas, Advisor in the European II Department of the IMF. The objectives of the mission are to (1) conduct the annual consultation with the Republic of Moldova and (2) initiate discussions on a new three-year program under the IMF’s Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF).

The PRGF is a new facility, approved by the IMF’s Interim Committee in September 1999. It aims at making poverty reduction efforts among low-income countries a key and more explicit element of a renewed growth-oriented economic strategy. The facility has a large concessional element: interest rate under the facility is 0.5 percent and the repayment period is 10 years (with a grace period of 5 ½ years).

The IMF office in Chisinau will provide information on the outcome of the discussions shortly after the mission’s departure.

O misiune a Fondului Monetar Internaţional va sosi la Chişinău în perioada 12-26 iulie.  Misiunea va fi condusă de către Dl. Richard Haas, Consilier în Departamentul II European al FMI.  Obiectivele misiunii sunt de a (1) conduce consultările anuale cu Republica Moldova şi (2) iniţia discuţii privind un program nou de trei ani în cadrul Mecanismului FMI de Reducere a Sărăciei şi Creştere Economică (PRGF).

PRGF este un mecanism nou, aprobat de către Comitetul Interimar al FMI în septembrie 1999.  El are ca scop transformarea eforturilor de reducere a sărăciei în ţările cu un venit jos într-un element cheie şi mai explicit al unei strategii economice reînnoite orientate spre creştere.  Mecanismul are un element concesional: dobânda este de 0.5% , perioada de rambursare fiind de 10 ani (cu o perioadă de graţie de 5 ½ ani).

Reprezentanţa FMI din Chişinău va prezenta informaţia privind rezultatele discuţiilor în scurt timp după plecarea misiunii.
