An IMF mission team led by Mr. Peter Mullins, Senior Economist at the IMF’s
Fiscal Affairs Department, worked in Chisinau during March 21 – April 2, 2007.
The
goal of the mission was to review the appropriate level of taxation on labor
and income, both individual and corporate, and provide advice on possible
reforms. The mission also reviewed progress in implementing the tax
administration modernization strategy and advised on international experience
with tax arrears collection strategies.
The mission met with the First Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance,
the Minister of Economy and Trade, the management and staff of the State Tax
Inspectorate and other relevant authorities, as well as with private
stakeholders, donors and technical assistance providers.
The mission has prepared a draft assessment with a list of recommendations.
These will be finalized based on discussions with and comments from
Government.
