Assistance Mission on Tax Administration Concluded Its Work on September 26
An IMF mission team headed by Mr. Allan Jensen, Revenue Administration Advisor
at the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department worked in Chisinau during September
13-26.
The goal of the mission was to assist the Moldovan authorities in their
efforts ensure fiscal compliance. In this context, the mission discussed options
for strengthening audit and debt collection, reorganizing the headquarters and
the local structures of the State Tax Service (STS), the need to urgently
upgrade the STS’ IT system. The mission stressed upon consolidation of all tax
assessing and collecting activities in one agency.
The mission met with the First Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of
Finance, the management and staff of the STS and of the Center for Combating
Economic Crimes and Corruption, as well as members of the donor community.
The mission appreciates highly the authorities’ determination to implement a
complex tax administration reform and encourages the Government to ensure
necessary funding and professional external consultancy to contribute to the
implementation of the tax administration reform, as well as to disseminate to
relevant donors the information in the final mission report.
