Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev had a meeting with an International Monetary Fund's mission, led by Head of the IMF European Bureau Thomas Richardson
The talks covered all the aspects of the Moldovan government's collaboration with the IMF, particularly the implementation of the new IMF programme for 2006-2009.

Richardson highlighted the constructive collaboration with the Moldovan government, and the presence of a strong will to re-launch the cooperation with the IMF at a more productive level.

Richardson said the fact that the draft collaboration document is worked out and submitted by the government is a good practice implemented in premiere in Moldova. He said that, in doing so, the government contributes to ensuring conditions necessary to fulfil the measures aiming to improve the prospects for a long-lasting economic growth.

The IMF official stressed that the Moldovan government has fulfilled all the actions forecast for this period, during which both the budgetary fiscal and monetary indexes were observed. The structural reforms are being carried out effectively, Richardson underlined.

Richardson said that although several macro-economic indexes were influenced by foreign factors, there has been registered a positive trend in all the fields. The fund will consider the opportunity to increase financing for Moldova, in order to maintain the development trend, Richardson added.

Tarlev highly appreciated the IMF's constructive stance in its relations with the Moldovan government. The premier said the executive is interested in a good cooperation with the international financial organizations.

Stressing the main directions of the government's activity, based on an effective implementation of the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper and the European Union Action Plan for Moldova, the premier voiced certitude that the fund's experience and potential will help successfully fulfil these goals.
