PRESS STATEMENT
IMF Technical
Assistance Mission Concluded Its Work
on February 8
Mr.
Eivind Tandberg, IMF Public Financial Management Advisor based at the Center of
Excellence in Finance (CEF), and Ms. Iana Paliova, regional expert from
Bulgaria, worked in Chisinau during February 4-8, 2008.
The
primary goal of the mission was to review progress in the implementation of
measures to include health and social fund resources in the treasury single
account, to strengthen the budget classification and chart of accounts, and to
improve coordination of medium-term and annual budgets, capital budgeting and
cash management. The mission sought to identify any critical bottlenecks or
obstacles in this regard, and suggest solutions to such problems, and discussed
plans for providing future technical assistance, in particular in the fields of
cash management and capital budgeting.
The
mission was pleased with progress made, in particular with regard to including
the Social Fund and the Health Insurance Corporation in the treasury single
account.
The
mission met with the management and staff of the Ministry of Finance, the
Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Social Fund, the Health Fund, and the World
Bank.
Mr.
Tandberg will report his findings and recommendations to the IMF management,
which will, in turn, share them with the authorities and other relevant parties.
The summary of the final aide-memoire will be posted on the CEF website (http://www.cef-see.org),
and will be made available to interested parties at their request.
